The Cerro Poqui Natural Reserve spans 1,095 hectares and is almost entirely protected under two conservation frameworks: Nature Sanctuary and a Derecho Real de Conservación (DRC). The decision to complement the Nature Sanctuary designation with a DRC agreement was borne from the necessity to involve another partner to expand the support network and channel financial and technical resources for area management. This approach made it possible to engage key stakeholders and local organizations in the development this conservation project. This marks the first ever case where a DRC has been applied to a Nature Sanctuary, combining compatible and complimentary conservation frameworks that strengthen the protection and effective management of the area The agreement was signed by Fundación Tierra Austral, acting as a conservation guarantor, involving key actors and local organizations in the process.
