Protected Areas / Parque Cuenca Andina

Conservation area covering more than 12,400 hectares, forming the largest protected area in the Maule Region.

This 12,400 hectare zone, located in los Queñes, is the largest protected area in the Maule Region. The Cuenca Andina Park will be preserved in perpetuity through a Derecho Real de Conservación agreement with Tierra Austral, guaranteeing the effective protection and maintenance of this zone. This ensures the landscape remains unfragmented and ecologically healthy, contributing to the greater goal of protecting key Mediterranean habitat in central Chile, the most threatened ecosystem in the country. The signing of this agreement is part of the efforts of the landowners who have worked for its conservation for over four decades. Thanks to their commitment, a unique habitat that marks the transition between the Mediterranean ecosystem and its sclerophyllous forest, alongside the temperate forests typical of the southern part of the country, will be preserved forever. This creates a biological corridor that will allow for the free movement of species motivated by drought or climate change. Additionally, it is a space with key water resources for the region!
